Job summary

Expedia Group is hiring a Senior Software Development Engineer in Seattle to design and evolve backend services with AI-enabled capabilities, API design, and scalable data models. You will work with AI tooling, ensure security and reliability, and mentor engineers in responsible AI practices.

You will collaborate with product and design teams to translate customer needs into robust systems, owning development through deployment and incident response in a fast-paced travel tech environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of professional experience building and operating production backend services.
• Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, system design, API design, and data modeling.
• Hands-on experience integrating AI/ML or LLM capabilities into production systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and evolve reliable backend services, including system design (LLD), API design, and data modeling for scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions.
• Render AI-assisted development workflows and validate outputs for correctness, security, and maintainability.
• Design and ship AI/ML-enabled capabilities in backend services, including LLM-powered features and tool integrations.
• Define and promote responsible AI practices: prompt management, data privacy, and compliance with security policies.
• Implement high-quality production code with automated testing, observability, and reliability.
• Collaborate with product, design, and partner engineering teams to translate requirements into robust backend solutions.
• Own end-to-end lifecycle of services and features: development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and incident resolution.
• Use data and analytics to prioritize work and measure impact of AI-driven improvements.
• Mentor engineers on safe use of AI tooling and raise team velocity and quality.
