Job summary

McGraw Hill is seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer on the Sharpen team to design, build, and operate scalable backend services using TypeScript and Go. You will own services across their lifecycle, deeply involved in architecture, API design, and reliability, while collaborating with multiple teams to deliver shared infrastructure.

You will work with GraphQL and REST APIs, distributed systems, and AWS/Kubernetes, ensuring production readiness and observability using tools like New Relic.

Qualifications

8+ years of professional software development experience building production backend services.
Strong experience with TypeScript and Go in microservice environments.
Proficiency designing GraphQL and REST APIs and data models.
Experience with AWS and Kubernetes (preferably Amazon EKS).

Responsibilities

Design, develop, test, and operate scalable backend services in TS and Go.
Own services through full lifecycle including architecture and production readiness.
Build and evolve GraphQL/REST APIs with versioning and migrations.
Develop distributed systems and event-driven microservices.
Collaborate across teams for shared-service integrations and reliability.
