Job summary

Spring Health is seeking a Senior Software Engineer in Seattle, hybrid with a requirement to be in the office 2-3 days a week. You will design and build scalable backend services in Ruby on Rails, guided by AI-driven design and strict quality standards.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software development experience with a focus on backend development.
• Strong proficiency in Ruby on Rails, Python, or equivalent object-oriented backend language.
• Experience leading technical designs and multi-person engineering projects end-to-end.
• Strong SQL skills and familiarity with relational databases like PostgreSQL.
• Actively uses AI coding tools and iterates on prompts to get high-quality outputs while reviewing AI-generated code.
• Embraces writing well-designed tests that accompany all code.
• Proven ability to mentor and develop engineers at earlier career stages.
• Comfortable working on an agile team; eager to learn evolving AI capabilities.
• Bonus: Experience integrating AI/ML features or healthcare domain knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Write, review, and optimize production-ready code daily with high quality standards.
• Lead technical design reviews and produce designs as primary author.
• Use AI tools to support design, explore tradeoffs, and accelerate delivery while ensuring security.
• Guide junior engineers on effective and responsible AI usage.
• Design and build scalable backend services in Ruby on Rails, managing provider-facing APIs.
• Lead multi-sprint projects and coordinate stakeholders.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews and pairing.
• Maintain operational excellence with logs, alerts, and on-call participation.
