Job summary

Coinbase is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for the Access & Authorization team within the Platform group. You will shape authentication and authorization systems used across Coinbase products, balancing strong security with a simple user experience.

You will design and operate distributed Go services, implement OAuth flows, 2FA, and edge authorization, and collaborate across security, product, and infrastructure teams. Lead architectural ideas and mentor peers in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend software engineering experience with Go or a comparable systems-oriented language.
• Experience designing secure APIs with OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWTs, PKCE, or related standards.
• Proficiency with gRPC, Protocol Buffers, and data stores such as Redis or DynamoDB.
• Strong observability practices with metrics, logs, traces, and SLOs.
• Experience delivering cross-functional projects from design to production.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end design, implementation, and operation of authentication and authorization capabilities.
• Build secure, low-latency Go and gRPC services used across Coinbase products.
• Lead technical designs for initiatives like signed tokens, passkeys, device-aware authentication.
• Partner with product, security, fraud, and infra teams to balance security and user experience.
• Mentor engineers through reviews, pairing, and on-call participation.
