Job summary

Coinbase, Inc. is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Access & Authorization team. You will design and operate authentication, OAuth, sessions, and tokens across Coinbase platforms, balancing security with a smooth user experience.

You will build high-throughput Go and gRPC services, partner with product, security, and infra teams, and mentor engineers to raise the technical bar. This is a remote-first role with quarterly in-person sessions.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend software engineering experience with Go or similar
• Experience designing secure APIs (OAuth/OIDC/JWT) and token handling
• Proficiency with gRPC, Protocol Buffers, Redis or DynamoDB
• Strong collaboration with product, security, and infra teams
• Mentor engineers and drive design reviews and on-call participation

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end design and operation of authentication, OAuth, sessions, tokens, 2FA, and edge authorization.
• Build secure Go and gRPC services used across Coinbase platforms with strong observability and SLOs.
• Lead technical designs for signed tokens, passkeys, biometric recovery, and device-aware authentication.
• Collaborate with product, security, fraud and infra teams to balance UX, security, and compliance.
• Develop self-service tooling to enable safe adoption of access capabilities at scale.
• Mentor engineers and raise the technical bar through reviews and pairing.
