Coinbase, Inc. is hiring a Staff Software Engineer for the Access & Authorization team. You will design and operate authentication and authorization capabilities, building low-latency Go services used across Coinbase’s web, mobile, API, and partner experiences.

Expect strong security, high throughput, and collaboration with product, security, fraud, and infra teams. You will mentor engineers, lead complex technical designs, and help balance regulatory requirements with engineering constraints

Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend software engineering with Go.
• Designing secure APIs and managing auth, tokens, and sessions.
• Proficiency with gRPC, Protocol Buffers, Redis/DynamoDB; strong observability.
• Track record delivering complex, cross-functional projects with clear communication.
• Uses generative AI responsibly with human oversight.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end design and operation of authentication and authorization capabilities.
• Build secure Go/gRPC services used across Coinbase products with observability.
• Lead designs for tokens, passkeys, biometric recovery, and device-aware auth.
• Collaborate with product, security, fraud, and infra teams to balance goals.
• Create self-service tooling to scale safe adoption of access capabilities.
• Mentor engineers through reviews and on-call participation.
