What You’ll Do

  • Champion the design, development, and delivery of cloud-native orchestration services supporting internal systems and vendor platforms
  • Define and evolve API contracts (REST, GraphQL), JSON schemas, event contracts and canonical structures, with an emphasis on scalability, performance, and observability
  • Contribute to architectural decisions, particularly around microservices, API-to-API, events, webservices/webhooks, in a real-world production context
  • Develop a strong understanding of the business processes and logic the orchestration layer supports
  • Design and implement data publishing workflows to support operational and analytical data needs, evolving as necessary
  • Collaborate closely with engineers, product owners, architects, analysts to translate business needs into working software
  • Contribute to the full service lifecycle—from development and CI/CD to infrastructure and deployment
  • Champion observability practices including structured logging, monitoring, and instrumentation (Datadog or AWS Cloudwatch experience preferred)
  • Drive engineering excellence by leading design reviews, contributing to post-mortems, and documenting key decisions and patterns
  • Proactively manage technical debt and enable platform scalability through thoughtful system design and domain ownership

Who You Are

  • 5+ years of backend engineering experience, including leadership of complex projects or services, 3+ years working with cloud serverless and orchestration services (AWS preferred – Lambda, Step Functions, API Gateway, EventBridge, etc; similar experience in GCP or Azure will be considered)
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or related field?
  • Strong proficiency in modern backend languages/frameworks with cloud SDK support (Node/Typescript, NestJS, Python), experience writing helper functions/data transformations python or similar
  • Experience building, integrating with ETL pipelines
  • Solid grasp of event-driven architectures, patterns, enrichment, and production-ready design considerations
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (CDK, CloudFormation, YAML)
  • Experienced in Agile, flexible working culture, delivering solutions in both a ‘0 to 1’ manner, and in small iterations
  • Ability to independently set up services, including CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure with secure authentication
  • Experience designing systems that publish to an ODS or similar analytical data store, with attention to event durability, schema evolution, and downstream data consumer needs
  • Self-directed and adaptable—able to work effectively in greenfield environments, understand how to take a prototyped system or feature to production
  • Passionate about mentoring, documenting, and fostering a culture of ownership and excellence
  • Experience in insurance or financial technology services is a plus
  • Some familiarity with Salesforce development is a plus
  • Lean, fully remote team with members across U.S. time zones
  • Greenfield development on AWS in the Group Insurance Claims space – you won’t be retrofitting legacy systems or inheriting old codebases
  • The company uses JS, Java, C#, Typescript, Python services deployed onto AWS infrastructure widely
  • CI/CD powered by Azure DevOps Pipelines; infrastructure managed through AWS CDK and declarative templates
  • They value curiosity, collaboration, and creativity—engineers here level up the team, not just the tech
