Chime is hiring a backend engineer to scale and evolve our Cards portfolio. You’ll design resilient systems, mentor engineers, and collaborate with product, risk, and design teams.

Expect to build high-performance APIs and contribute across the stack in a fast-paced fintech environment. The role emphasizes architecture, reliability, and cross-functional collaboration, with on-call duties and a base salary range of $164,000 to $227,000 plus bonus and equity.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in production software development
• Experience leading complex projects and coordinating cross-functional teams
• Proven Rails or similar framework experience
• Strong understanding of databases, caching, and scalable architectures
• Mentor engineers and promote maintainable, tested code
• Curiosity for deep system exploration and performance optimization
• Experience with on-call responsibilities is a plus

Responsibilities

• Drive technical design and architectural decisions across services
• Mentor engineers and coordinate cross-functional work
• Build and maintain low-latency backend APIs powering platforms
• Lead multiple projects and own key initiatives
• Collaborate with data, analytics, and product teams to ship features
• Improve reliability and performance through observability and automation
• Support ML integration and policy lifecycle evolution
• Participate in on-call rotations as needed
