Job summary

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Senior Backbone Network Developer to help scale one of the world’s largest networks. You will synthesize vendor strategies across the AWS network topology, collaborating with suppliers, technology partners and AWS service teams to meet customer demands.

The role focuses on commercial and technical vendor network strategy within North America, driving cost-effective solutions while ensuring reliability and performance for AWS infrastructure worldwide.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or 6+ years IT experience is required.
• 10+ years telecommunications industry experience is required.
• Experience in managing suppliers/customers or partners is required.
• Ability to create complex financial models to understand business impacts is required.
• Procurement and negotiations of dark fiber and wavelengths are required.

Responsibilities

• Drive overall Network Infrastructure strategy for the Americas Backbone Network Development team.
• Execute strategic backbone network plans with regular progress updates.
• Identify suppliers and develop technical and commercial solutions for wavelengths, dark fibre and submarine capacity.
• Coordinate with vendors and internal teams to deliver new backbone capacity.
• Collaborate with network planners to ensure cost-effective topology.
• Work with finance on budget, business cases, deal inspection, and invoicing.
• Track telecom market trends in vendor technologies, coverage, cost and deal structures.
• Manage supplier onboarding, relationships, and service quality.
• Anticipate bottlenecks, manage risk and balance business vs technical needs.
