Job summary

Amazon Web Services seeks a Senior Backbone Network Developer to lead the Americas backbone network development. You will partner with suppliers and internal teams to design scalable network infrastructure, focusing on wavelengths, dark fiber, and capacity expansion.

The role requires deep telecom experience, strategic negotiation, and strong financial modeling to optimize costs while meeting customer demands across global AWS regions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics or equivalent, or 6+ years of IT experience.
• 10+ years telecommunications industry experience in a similar environment.
• Experience in managing suppliers/customers or partners.
• Ability to create complex financial models to understand business impacts of various network solutions.
• Procurement and negotiations of dark fiber and wavelengths.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a key member of the Americas Backbone Network Development team driving overall Network Infrastructure strategy.
• Execute strategic backbone network plans and provide regular progress updates.
• Identify suppliers and develop technical and commercial solutions for wavelengths, dark fibre, and submarine cable capacity.
• Organize, track, and coordinate with vendors and internal teams to deliver new backbone capacity.
• Work with planners and engineers to ensure cost-effective network topology.
• Collaborate with finance on budget, business cases, deals, and invoicing.
• Track telecom market trends, vendor technologies, and deal structures.
• Manage supplier onboarding, relationships, and service quality.
• Anticipate bottlenecks and balance business needs with technical constraints.
