Syms Strategic Group (SSG) seeks a Data Platform Engineer for a 100% remote U.S. position supporting Veterans Affairs. The role focuses on modernizing a healthcare data platform on AWS, migrating from MSSQL XML to scalable services, and delivering SQL-based reporting for business users.

You will collaborate with stakeholders to design data models, build CI/CD pipelines, and apply IaC using CDK/CF/TF while ensuring cost-effective, secure architectures. U.S.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software or data engineering with a strong AWS focus.
• Proven experience migrating cloud data platforms in production environments.
• Strong SQL and relational data modeling for BI reporting.
• Experience with XML-heavy data stores and transformations.
• Proficiency with Git, CI/CD and AWS-native tooling.
• Familiarity with HIPAA/security considerations in cloud data.

Responsibilities

• Lead the next phase of healthcare data platform modernization.
• Evolve MSSQL XML object store toward scalable AWS data architecture for SQL reports.
• Decide AWS data strategy for the platform.
• Design and build reporting/query layer for business users.
• Migrate XML object store data to AWS with optimal storage formats.
• Build and maintain AWS data catalog, schemas, and metadata.
• Collaborate with back-end C#/.Net engineers to ensure data flow from EDI pipelines.
• Implement CI/CD pipelines for data infra using AWS tooling.
• Apply IaC using CDK/CF/TF.
• Document architecture decisions and data dictionaries.
