Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) is seeking a Data Platform Engineer for a fully remote role supporting the Veterans Affairs department. The position is full-time with a Public Trust (MBI) clearance expectation and offers a salary range of $85,389 to $116,975.

You will lead modernization of the healthcare data platform, migrate XML object stores to AWS, design reporting layers, and collaborate with backend engineers.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software or data engineering with strong AWS focus.
• Proven experience migrating cloud data platforms in healthcare environments.
• Experience selecting AWS data services to meet reporting needs.
• Ability to deliver reporting analytics for non-technical users.
• Hands-on experience with S3, Athena, Glue, Aurora, DynamoDB, Redshift, OpenSearch.
• Experience with XML data stores and data transformation at scale.

Responsibilities

• Lead the next phase of healthcare data platform modernization.
• Evolve MSSQL XML object store to scalable cloud-native AWS architecture.
• Evaluate AWS data strategy and select optimal storage/queries.
• Design reporting layer for SQL queries via familiar tooling.
• Plan migration path of XML data into AWS platform.
• Build and maintain AWS data catalog, schemas, and metadata.
• Optimize query performance and cost across AWS services.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate requirements into data models.
• Coordinate with .NET engineers to ensure data flow from EDI pipelines.
• Implement CI/CD pipelines using AWS-native tooling and IaC.
