Job summary

MD Think for the State of Maryland Data Team is seeking a Senior Data Platform Engineer to architect, deploy, and operate an enterprise AWS data platform for analytics and data sharing.

Responsibilities include building the core AWS data services (S3 data lake, Redshift, Glue, Athena, Lake Formation), implementing data access controls, and delivering DataOps pipelines with IaC (Terraform/CDK). You will collaborate with security/compliance and support multi-account governance.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in data platform, cloud infrastructure, or DataOps engineering.
• Deep expertise with AWS data and analytics services: S3, Glue, Redshift, Athena, Lake Formation, EMR.
• Strong infrastructure-as-code skills (Terraform, AWS CDK, or CloudFormation).
• Experience managing multi-account AWS environments with governance guardrails.
• Solid understanding of data security: encryption at rest/in transit, IAM least-privilege, VPC networking for data services.

Responsibilities

• Architect and maintain the core AWS data platform: S3 data lake, Redshift Serverless or provisioned clusters, Glue catalog, Athena, Lake Formation.
• Design and enforce data access control and data sharing policies using Lake Formation and IAM.
• Build and maintain DataOps pipelines, IaC, and CI/CD workflows for platform deployments.
• Provide Tier 2/3 platform support and mentor junior data engineers; collaborate with security/compliance teams.
