Job summary

Varda Space Industries in El Segundo, CA is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer, Avionics to lead design, integration, and testing of avionics systems for our Winnebago Spaceship. You will ensure readiness for launch and operation, collaborating with multiple teams to meet mission objectives.

The role requires 5+ years in system design and validation, proficiency in Python, and experience with power, DAQ, RTD, and 4-20mA devices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field.
• 5+ years of experience in system design, test planning, and validation.
• Proficiency in Python programming.
• Experience with power supplies, modular DAQ systems, RTD and 4-20mA devices, and general test equipment.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with cross functional teams to define project scopes from concept to prototype and full-scale production.
• Develop electrical architecture, system diagrams, and budgets for power, telemetry, channel count, size and mass.
• Analyze architecture for faults, develop mitigation plans, and collaborate on FDIR or workarounds.
• Conduct verification plans for avionics on flight and HITL hardware for launch readiness.
• Participate in mission operations as an Avionics specialist or system operator.
• Oversee integration of Winnebago avionics systems; primary contact for investigations.
• Design, build, and operate HITL testbeds to simulate the spacecraft on the ground.
• Develop avionics ground infrastructure and test equipment; improve test automation.
• Mentor and train new engineers to foster continuous improvement.
