Job summary

Varda Space Industries in El Segundo, CA seeks a Systems Engineer II, Avionics to oversee design, integration, and testing of avionics for the Winnebago Spaceship. You will collaborate across teams to ensure launch readiness and mission objectives with HITL hardware and ground infrastructure.

You will mentor engineers, develop robust verification plans, and drive best practices in testing and validation within a fast-paced space-startup environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• 3+ years of system design, test planning and validation.
• Proficiency in Python.
• Experience with power supplies, modular DAQ, RTD and 4-20mA devices, and general test equipment.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with cross functional teams to define project scopes and requirements, guiding designs from concept to prototype and full-scale production.
• Develop electrical architecture, system diagrams, and budgets to account for power, telemetry, channel count, size, and mass predictions.
• Analyze architecture for faults and risks, develop mitigation plans, and collaborate on FDIR or workarounds when hardware solutions are unfeasible.
• Conduct verification plans for avionics systems on flight and HITL hardware, ensuring readiness for launch and mission objectives.
• Participate in mission operations as an Avionics specialist or system operator.
• Oversee the integration of the Winnebago avionics systems, acting as the primary point of contact for integrated systems investigations.
• Design, build, and operate HITL testbeds to simulate the spacecraft on the ground.
• Develop avionics ground infrastructure and test racks; contribute to engineering best practices and test automation.
• Mentor and train new engineers to foster learning and continuous improvement.
