Job summary

Vast, headquartered in Long Beach, California, is seeking a Senior Avionics Systems Engineer to support the development of high power satellites. You will report to the Senior Manager, Avionics and Power Systems, and contribute to design, integration, and verification efforts for flight-ready hardware.

The role requires 5+ years in avionics, systems engineering, and spaceflight lifecycle experience. Travel up to 10% may be required; this is a full-time exempt position based in Long Beach.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical, aerospace, or related engineering field.
• 5+ years of avionics design, integration, and/or unit testing experience.
• Experience with systems engineering for spacecraft development.
• Experience with lifecycle development: requirements, integration, validation, and operation.

Responsibilities

• Function as responsible engineer for avionics systems across design, integration, test, launch, and operations.
• Define detailed systems design including interfaces, budgets, harness and channel capabilities, and fault tolerance compliance.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements and trades from concept to flight production.
• Architect autonomous behaviors, vehicle modes, and fault responses to meet mission requirements.
• Develop system-level verification plans for integrated flight hardware to verify readiness.
