Job summary

Vast Space Llc. in Long Beach, California, is seeking a Senior Power Systems Engineer to own the spacecraft power system from architecture to validation. You will define power modes, balance budgets, and ensure readiness for launch, collaborating across mechanical, thermal, propulsion, GNC, and flight software teams.

The role requires 5+ years in spacecraft power design, experience with high-voltage systems, and lifecycle development. This exempt, full-time position is based in Long Beach, CA.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field.
• 5+ years in spacecraft electrical systems design.
• Experience designing spacecraft power systems from initial requirements.
• Experience with high voltage power systems above 100 V.
• Lifecycle development experience for space systems (definition to operation).

Responsibilities

• Own the satellite power system end to end, including architectural trades, requirements, interface definitions, and verification planning.
• Serve as technical authority for the spacecraft power system; own flight readiness assessment and sign-off on power system configuration for launch.
• Define ground and flight power modes and own the power budget; build energy balance models for size and margin.
• Decompose system requirements into unit-level requirements at circuit/functional level with verification plans.
• Drive design decisions across mechanical, thermal, propulsion, GNC, and flight software for the power system.
• Partner with Responsible Engineers on component-level design and test approach; ensure traceability to system requirements.
• Perform system-level failure analyses to motivate reliability design and validation plans.
• Collaborate with Satellite Vehicle Lead to manage power deliverables and integration/testing.
• Maintain consistent modular platform designs and document validation techniques.
• Own all documentation for satellite power systems and trade decisions.
