Job summary

Varda, based in El Segundo, CA, is seeking an experienced Avionics Engineer to lead the design, integration, and verification of avionics systems for the Winnebago Spaceship. You will collaborate with multiple engineering teams to ensure readiness for launch and reentry, applying rigorous testing and fault analysis.

The role requires at least 5 years in system design and test planning, Python proficiency, and hands-on work with power systems, DAQ hardware, and HITL environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of experience in system design, test planning, and validation.
• Proficiency in Python programming.
• Experience with power supplies, modular DAQ systems, RTD and 4-20mA devices, and general test equipment.

Responsibilities

• Oversee avionics design, integration, and testing for Winnebago Spaceship.
• Collaborate with cross functional teams to define project scopes and requirements.
• Develop electrical architecture, system diagrams, and budgets for power, telemetry, channel count, size, and mass.
• Analyze architecture for faults and risks, develop mitigation plans and FDIR solutions.
• Conduct verification plans for avionics on flight and HITL hardware.
• Participate in mission operations as an Avionics specialist or system operator.
• Oversee integration of Winnebago avionics systems as the primary contact.
• Design, build, and operate HITL testbeds for ground validation.
• Develop avionics ground infrastructure and R&D test racks; contribute to engineering best practices.
• Mentor and train new engineers.
