Job summary

Varda Space Industries, Inc. is seeking an experienced Avionics professional to lead design, integration, and testing for our Winnebago Spaceship avionics systems. You will guide cross-functional teams from concept to production, ensuring readiness for launch and space manufacturing missions.

The role emphasizes hardware-in-the-loop testing, verification planning, and hands-on HITL work in an on-site El Segundo environment supporting ambitious in-space infrastructure goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; electrical/computer engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years of system design, test planning, and validation experience.
  • Proficiency in Python programming.
  • Experience with power supplies, DAQ, RTD, and 4-20mA devices.
  • Familiarity with avionics concepts and HITL testing is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to define project scopes from concept to prototype and production.
  • Develop electrical architecture, system diagrams, and budgets for power, telemetry, channel count, size and mass.
  • Analyze architecture for faults, develop mitigation plans, and collaborate on FDIR or workarounds when needed.
  • Create verification plans for avionics systems on flight and HITL hardware, ensuring readiness for launch.
  • Participate in mission operations as an avionics specialist or system operator and advise on health and corrective actions.
  • Oversee integration of Winnebago avionics systems and act as primary contact for investigations.
  • Design, build, and operate HITL testbeds to simulate spacecraft on ground.
  • Develop avionics ground infrastructure supporting test racks and R&D equipment, improving test automation.
  • Mentor and train new engineers to foster learning and continuous improvement.
