Job summary

Leidos Defense seeks a Principal Electrical Engineer to lead the architectural design and hardware-software integration for advanced DoD avionics and missile systems. You will guide hardware lifecycle from concept to flight-ready boards, partnering with IPTs across electronics, cabling, and grounding to ensure robust, mission-ready solutions.

The role requires a Top-Secret clearance, extensive FPGA/SoC experience, and strong systems engineering in RTOS environments.

Qualifications

• Active Top-Secret Clearance is required for this role.
• Master’s degree in electrical engineering or related STEM with 10+ years hardware architecture experience, or a bachelor’s with 12+ years of experience.
• Proven background as a hardware architect or technical lead for flight-worthy electronics and avionics assemblies.
• Experience with SoC/FPGA systems, RTOS environments, and high-frequency interfaces.
• Familiarity with defense standards MIL-STD-461/704/1472/IPC series and WOSA/MOSA concepts.

Responsibilities

• Architect, lead, and deliver avionics and LRUs for missiles, UAVs, and launch platforms.
• Oversee hardware designs with Xilinx/AMD Zynq, Altera FPGAs, RTOS, and high-speed interfaces.
• Lead IPTs across electronics, cabling, grounding, and bonding; host weekly design reviews.
