Job summary

Leidos Defense Systems is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to drive the architectural design, hardware-software integration, and deployment of next-generation avionics for DoD initiatives.

You will translate complex customer concepts into flight-ready hardware solutions, lead cross-functional IPTs, and guide hardware lifecycles with a focus on high-assurance electronics and RF/mixed-signal interfaces.

Qualifications

• Active Top-Secret Clearance.
• 10+ years of hardware architecture experience with a master’s degree in electrical engineering (or 12+ years with a bachelor).
• Experience as hardware architect or technical lead for flight-worthy avionics and electronics.
• Extensive experience with SoC/FPGA systems, RTOS environments, and high-frequency interfaces.
• Experience with MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-1472, IPC-D-620/IPC-D-630.
• Led multi-disciplinary engineering teams as IPT Lead, product owner, or scrum master.
• U.S. Citizenship required.
• Willingness to travel 10-20%.

Responsibilities

• Architect, lead, and deliver avionics, electrical interfaces, and LRUs for missiles, UAVs, and launch platforms.
• Oversee heterogeneous system co-designs using Xilinx/AMD Zynq SoCs, Altera FPGAs, RTOS, and networking stacks.
• Direct IPTs for electronics, cabling, grounding, and bonding with external subcontractors.
• Translate military standards into hardware requirements; support CAMs with technical write-ups and schedules.
• Lead test plans, environmental screening, HWIL integration, and launch-readiness actions.
• Collaborate with systems engineering to ensure rigorous hardware requirements.
