Job summary

Leidos Defense is seeking a highly skilled Principal Electrical Engineer to drive hardware-software integration and deployment for next-generation tactical systems and avionics supporting DoD initiatives.

You will lead multi-disciplinary IPTs, architect rugged electronics, and guide hardware lifecycles from concept to flight-ready implementations. A Top-Secret clearance and strong leadership are essential.

Qualifications

Active Top-Secret Clearance.
Master’s degree in electrical engineering with 10+ years hardware architecture experience, OR a bachelor’s with 12+ years.
Proven background as a hardware architect or technical lead for flight-worthy electronics and avionics assemblies.
Extensive experience with SoC/FPGA systems, RTOS environments, and high-frequency interfaces.
Defense standards MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-1472, IPC-D-620 Class 3, IPC-D-630.
Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams as IPT Lead, product owner, or Scrum Master.

Responsibilities

Architect, lead, and deliver avionics, interfaces, and LRUs for missile systems, UAVs, and launch platforms.
Coordinate complex system co-designs using Xilinx/AMD Zynq SoCs, Altera FPGAs, MicroBlaze, and network stacks.
Oversee multi-layer PDN definitions, multi-rail regulation, rigid-flex PCBA layouts, and high-speed interfaces (PCIe, transceivers, RF).
Lead IPTs for electronics, cabling, grounding, and bonding; host weekly tech interchange with sub-contractors.
Translate military standards into hardware requirements; support CAMs with technical write-ups and schedules for EVM and proposals.
Act as test conductor/lead verification engineer for system-level tests, HWIL, and launch readiness.
