Job summary

Leidos Defense Systems in Huntsville, AL is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to lead the architecture and integration of next‑generation avionics and flight instrumentation for DoD initiatives. You will drive hardware design across lifecycles, align with IPTs, and translate complex customer concepts into flight-ready hardware solutions.

The role requires a Top‑Secret clearance and 10+ years of hardware architecture experience (12+ with a bachelor’s). Travel up to 20% may be expected.

Qualifications

  • Active Top-Secret Clearance.
  • 10+ years of hardware architecture experience with a Master’s degree in electrical engineering or 12+ years with a bachelor’s degree.
  • Proven track record leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams as IPT Lead or Scrum Master.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, lead, and deliver avionics, electrical weapon interfaces, and LRUs for missile systems, UAVs, and launch platforms.
  • Oversee system co-designs using Xilinx/AMD Zynq SoCs, Altera FPGAs, and RTOS/UDP/IP stacks.
  • Direct IPTs for electronics, cabling, grounding, bonding; host weekly technical interchange with subcontractors.
  • Translate military standards into hardware requirements and support EVM and CapEx proposals.
  • Act as test conductor or lead verification engineer for system-level test plans and HWIL integration.
