Job summary

Collins Aerospace, an RTX company, seeks a Senior Systems Safety Engineer to ensure avionics and electric power systems are safe, reliable, and ready for modern aviation. You will influence system-level design decisions and guide safety milestones for aerospace customers.

This role is onsite in Cedar Rapids, IA with relocation assistance. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and act as a safety technical expert in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree with minimum 3 years of experience.
• Experience in aircraft systems (avionics, electric power) or reliability, safety engineering.
• Experience with CAFTA or similar Fault Tree analysis tools.
• Knowledge of ARP4761, ARP4754A, DO-254, DO-178B/C, DO-297.
• Ability to present technical information to peers and external customers.
• Experience coordinating projects and engineering activities.
• Knowledge in reliability engineering theory.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform civil safety assessment per ARP4761 including FHAs, PSSAs, SSAs, FTAs, CMAs.
• Support safety requirements across hardware and software engineering teams during development.
• Review design and development documentation for safety-critical equipment.
• Review analyses with peer safety engineers.
• Apprentice under Technical Lead.
• Accountable to team and leadership for committed work and responsibilities.
• Develop and maintain expertise in assigned areas (program, function, process, technology).
• Collaborate with customers, stakeholders, and leaders to develop safety plans.
• Be a recognized technical expert in system safety.
