Job summary

Jobgether is seeking a Senior Electrical / Hardware Engineer based in the United States for a fully remote role focused on sustaining and modernizing safety-critical avionics hardware.

You will tackle obsolescence challenges across aerospace and defense programs, combining FPGA and digital hardware work with DMSMS analysis and avionics certification expertise. The environment is collaborative and high‑stakes, emphasizing quality and reliability.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • 10+ years of professional FPGA development or embedded hardware experience, preferably in aerospace/defense.
  • Hands-on FPGA development with Vivado, Quartus, or Libero.
  • Proficiency with VHDL, Verilog, or SystemVerilog.
  • Experience with DO-254/DO-160 or avionics certification activities.
  • Knowledge of digital electronics, PCB design reviews, signal/power integrity, EMI/EMC.
  • Experience with ARINC 429, MIL-STD-1553, Ethernet, PCIe, SPI, I2C, CAN, UART.
  • Understanding of obsolescence and DMSMS strategies; technology refresh.
  • FPGA/ASIC-to-FPGA redesign experience advantageous.
  • Familiarity with ARP4754A/ARP4761 and FACE architecture.

Responsibilities

  • Perform DMSMS assessments to identify obsolete or at-risk components and their impact on availability.
  • Develop mitigation strategies including component selection and FPGA redesigns.
  • Design FPGA-based replacements for obsolete ASICs, CPLDs, PLDs, and discrete logic.
  • Maintain replacement Bills of Materials and assess component suitability.
  • Support schematic updates, PCB reviews, signal and power integrity, and EMI/EMC considerations.
  • Evaluate design against avionics standards and certification requirements.
  • Support lab testing, hardware integration, troubleshooting, and engineering changes.
  • Produce certification-quality documentation and communicate recommendations clearly.
  • Support ASIC-related design activities and FPGA refresh initiatives.
  • Collaborate across hardware, systems, software, certification, and programs teams.
