Job summary

Uber is building an autonomous data-collection fleet in Sunnyvale, CA to scale high-quality driving data. The Senior AV Fleet Technician leads on-site operations, coordinating hardware/software diagnostics, upfit validation, and SOP architecture while driving cross-site audits and automation to accelerate data throughput.

You will work at the intersection of hardware, software, and fleet operations, traveling up to 50% as needed to bootstrap new cities and refine processes while ensuring safe,

Qualifications

• 5+ years in advanced technical roles with complex electromechanical systems or autonomous hardware integration.
• Strong problem-solving ability in ambiguous, fast-changing environments.
• Proficiency in Linux troubleshooting and scripting (Python or Bash).
• Experience documenting technical workflows, SOPs, and training teams.
• Hands-on hardware experience with networking and sensors (LiDAR, Radar, Cameras, IMU) or data links (CAN, Automotive Ethernet).
• Willingness to travel up to 50% to bootstrap new cities and perform cross-site audits.

Responsibilities

• Launch data collection in new cities, overseeing hardware setup to data offload and local playbooks.
• Serve as the final on-site escalation point for complex faults in hardware and software.
• Validate upfitted vehicles and assess depot-level serviceability with actionable maintenance workflows.
• Design, test, and document SOPs; conduct cross-site audits for consistent execution.
• Identify bottlenecks and develop scripts/tools to automate repetitive tasks and speed data collection.
