Job summary

Lunar Outpost Inc. is seeking a Senior Autonomy Machine Learning Engineer to research, train, evaluate, and deploy ML models for lunar rovers, C2 platforms, and terrestrial robotic systems.

You will work at the intersection of robotics, AI, and space exploration, building datasets, pipelines, and deployment tools to enable autonomous mission execution with operator support and reduced oversight.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of professional/research experience in ML for autonomous robotic systems.
• Experience with PyTorch, JAX or TensorFlow.
• Experience in vision-language or multimodal models.
• Strong software engineering with Linux and Git.
• Ability to translate research concepts into working prototypes.

Responsibilities

• Research, design, train, and evaluate transformer-based ML architectures for autonomous robotic applications.
• Develop vision-language-action models connecting operator intent to robot plans.
• Enable natural-language command interpretation and autonomous task execution.
• Develop human-robot teaming capabilities for supervising multiple robotic assets.
• Create systems for mission summarization, anomaly detection, and operator recommendations.
• Integrate ML models with robotic platforms and autonomy frameworks.
• Conduct hardware-in-the-loop tests and field demonstrations.
• Participate in design reviews and risk assessments.
