Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a Senior Autonomy Development Engineer in Mossville, IL. You will shape software and hardware integration for machine collision mitigation and autonomous systems, working across sensing, compute, and machine integration.

This role includes developing features, calibrating sensors, and validating performance from bench tests to customer sites. You will co-ordinate with hardware teams, perform data collection, and build automated validation tooling using Python.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• 5+ years in embedded, machine, autonomy, ADAS, or robotics systems with hardware integration.
• Experience with radar and camera data processing, perception, CV, or ML.
• Familiarity with ISO 13849/25119/61508/21448 safety standards.
• Experience with HIL/SIL, MATLAB/Simulink, GTest.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop application software in C++ on embedded Linux, including camera and radar pipelines.
• Define and manage software and system requirements and architecture tradeoffs.
• Install, commission, and calibrate cameras, radar, compute, and data acquisition hardware.
• Build and operate HIL benches; develop Python validation tooling for repeatable results.
• Document architecture specs, design descriptions, verification plans, and procedures.
• Lead verification/validation and apply FuSa and SOTIF practices.
• Provide technical direction and mentorship to junior engineers and coordinate with hardware teams.
