Job summary

Intertek USA, located in Kentwood, Michigan, is seeking a Staff Engineer to join the Transportation Technologies team. The role focuses on technical leadership, training development, and support for test procedures and standards interpretations across automotive testing and certification.

The successful candidate will review engineering judgments, mentor staff, and drive capital projects while coordinating with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering is required.
• 6+ years of related experience making technical decisions independently.
• Advanced knowledge of US/Canadian/International standards (FMVSS, ANSI, SAE, ASTM, IEC).
• Ability to apply logic and analyze complex problems.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proven leadership and mentoring abilities.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical assessment of engineering skills and performance to local management.
• Assess training needs and develop new technical training programs.
• Offer guidance on test procedures and standards interpretations.
• Maintain expertise across multiple product categories and standards.
• Research new standards, technologies, and trends.
• Develop and communicate test procedures.
• Support audits, corrective actions, and accreditation activities.
• Design new test fixtures and report shells.
• Document engineering judgments and manage capital projects.
• Prepare capital expenditure requests and mentor junior staff.
