Job summary

Murray Resources is seeking a Controller to oversee accounting and financial operations for a high-volume automotive dealership in Houston, TX. You will manage financial reporting, month/year-end closes, GL maintenance, and compliance with manufacturer requirements.

Responsibilities include supervising AP/AR, cash management, payroll, vehicle accounting, floorplan reconciliation, and coordination with external accountants. A Bachelor's degree and 5+ years in dealership accounting are preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred
• Five or more years of progressive automotive dealership accounting experience preferred
• Previous experience as a Controller, Comptroller, Office Manager, or comparable dealership accounting management
• Experience with dealership management systems (Reynolds & Reynolds or CDK) required

Responsibilities

• Direct all dealership accounting and financial reporting functions.
• Oversee the preparation and submission of accurate monthly financial statements in accordance with manufacturer and dealership requirements.
• Ensure month-end and year-end closing processes are completed accurately and on schedule.
• Maintain the dealership's general ledger and ensure accounts are properly reconciled.
• Review financial statements, schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation for accuracy.
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, payroll accounting, vehicle accounting, and related functions.
• Managed daily cash controls, bank reconciliations, deposits, and dealership banking activity.
• Monitor contracts in transit, vehicle receivables, schedules, aged accounts, and outstanding balances.
• Oversee floorplan accounting and reconciliation of vehicle inventory.
• Ensure new, used, wholesale, dealer trade, and inventory transactions are properly recorded.
• Reconcile manufacturer statements, incentives, holdback, rebates, warranty receivables, and other manufacturer-related accounts.
• Establish and maintain effective internal accounting controls and dealership accounting procedures.
• Identify accounting discrepancies and ensure timely research and resolution.
• Oversee accounting office personnel, including workflow, training, performance, and deadlines.
• Work closely with dealership management to review financial performance and address variances.
• Assist management with budgeting, forecasting, expense control, and financial analysis.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local accounting, tax, payroll, and record-retention requirements.
• Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, banks, taxing authorities, and other business partners as required.
• Protect dealership assets and confidential financial information.
• Maintain accurate records and supporting documentation for audits and manufacturer reviews.
• Continually evaluate accounting processes and implement improvements suitable for a high-volume dealership.
