Job summary

Burnett Staffing Specialists seeks a Controller for an automotive dealership. The Controller will establish accounting systems and supervise the accounting department to ensure accurate financial reporting, adherence to policies, and strong internal controls within the dealership.

Experience in the automotive dealership industry is required. CDK/ADP and DMS knowledge are preferred, along with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting; CPA is a plus.

Qualifications

Job description

Controller - Automotive Dealership The Controller position establishes and maintains accounting systems and procedures to accurately present financial information to both internal and external parties. The Controller is responsible for the dealership’s financial operations to effectively maintain fiscal procedures and controls, to analyze performance and to recommend action needed to maximize profitability to the dealership. Additionally, the Controller supervises the accounting department, business office and all administrative functions at the store. Experience in the automotive dealership industry is required.

Controller Responsibilities:

• Responsible for accounting operations of the dealership including, but not limited to timely financial reporting, dealership compliance, and support to the General Manager.
• Adhere to dealership financial policies and procedures established by the corporate office as well as generally accepted accounting principles.
• Compliance with local, state and federal regulations.
• Ensure applicable controls are in place to monitor accounting practices and to safeguard dealership assets and customer data.
• Actively manage cash flow, bank reconciliation, floorplan and accounts receivable balances.
• Analyze financial data, account for variances and present results and/or recommendations.
• Prepare and interpret financial statements in accord with dealership company guideline.
• Assist in audit preparation and inquiries (sales tax, franchise, warranty, property/casualty).
• Respond timely to inquiries from employees, vendors, state and federal agencies.
• Manage, mentor and hold accountable the office staff and accounting personnel.
• Ensure compliance with appropriate internal and external authorities.
• Conduct weekly accounts receivable meetings.
• Perform month/year end closing, report generation and completion of compliance checklist.

Controller Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related discipline required CPA preferred.
• Prior financial leadership role in the automotive industry.
• Automotive dealership industry experience required.
• DMS knowledge required.
• CDK/ADP preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word and Excel).
