Burnett Specialists Staffing | Recruiting seeks an experienced Controller to establish and maintain accounting systems for a car dealership. This leadership role oversees the accounting department, business office and all administrative functions, ensuring timely reporting and strong internal controls.

The ideal candidate has automotive dealership experience, a degree in Finance/Accounting, CPA preferred, and solid knowledge of DMS and CDK/ADP systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or related discipline is required.
• CPA certification is preferred.
• Prior financial leadership role in the automotive industry is required.
• Automotive dealership industry experience is required.
• DMS knowledge is required.
• CDK/ADP experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee accounting operations of the dealership, including timely financial reporting and compliance.
• Adhere to corporate policies and GAAP.
• Ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations.
• Implement controls to safeguard assets and customer data.
• Manage cash flow, bank reconciliations, floorplan and accounts receivable.
• Analyze financial data, identify variances, and present recommendations.
• Prepare and interpret financial statements per company guidelines.
• Assist in audit preparation and inquiries.
• Respond to inquiries from employees, vendors, and regulatory bodies.
• Supervise office staff and accounting personnel.
• Maintain compliance with internal and external authorities.
• Lead weekly accounts receivable meetings.
• Conduct month/year end closing and compliance checklist completion.

Job description

The Controller position establishes and maintains accounting systems and procedures to accurately present financial information to both internal and external parties. The Controller is responsible for the dealership?s financial operations to effectively maintain fiscal procedures and controls, to analyze performance and to recommend action needed to maximize profitability to the dealership. Additionally, the Controller supervises the accounting department, business office and all administrative functions at the store. Experience in the automotive dealership industry is required.

Controller Responsibilities

• Responsible for accounting operations of the dealership including, but not limited to, timely financial reporting, dealership compliance, and support to the General Manager.
• Adhere to dealership financial policies and procedures established by the corporate office as well as generally accepted accounting principles.
• Comply with local, state and federal regulations.
• Ensure applicable controls are in place to monitor accounting practices and to safeguard dealership assets and customer data.
• Actively manage cash flow, bank reconciliation, floorplan and accounts receivable balances.
• Analyze financial data, account for variances and present results and/or recommendations.
• Prepare and interpret financial statements in accordance with dealership company guidelines.
• Assist in audit preparation and inquiries (sales tax, franchise, warranty, property/casualty).
• Respond timely to inquiries from employees, vendors, state and federal agencies.
• Manage, mentor and hold accountable the office staff and accounting personnel.
• Ensure compliance with appropriate internal and external authorities.
• Conduct weekly accounts receivable meetings.
• Perform month/year end closing, report generation and completion of compliance checklist.

Controller Qualifications
