Job summary

Glidewell Dental seeks a hands-on Senior Automation Engineer to design and build advanced manufacturing systems. You’ll own control system architecture, develop automation software, and collaborate with mechanical engineers to move complex machinery from concept to production.

You will work beyond PLC programming, writing HMIs, fieldbus networks, and machine vision software while ensuring safety and compliance. This is an onsite role on the Irvine campus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
• Minimum eight years of related experience or equivalent.
• Knowledge of C/C++ programming.
• Proficient PLC programming knowledge.
• Proficient IEC 61131-3 Structured text and Ladder logic.
• Proficient EtherCAT fieldbus knowledge.
• Knowledge of UL 508A and NFPA 79.
• Experience with MQTT, Ethernet and TCP/IP standards.

Responsibilities

• Writes software to drive machinery automation including PLC, UI and machine vision.
• Designs networking architecture for automated manufacturing processes.
• Prepares programs for HMI, FAT and SAT; handles fieldbus, PLCs as per IEC 61131-3.
• Ensures safety requirements per OSHA, NFPA 79, UL 508A.
• Defines MQTT/control systems architecture for distributed automation.
• Leads control system implementation for manufacturing processes.
• Negotiates with vendors for control systems hardware.
• Creates documents and BOMs for fabrication.
• Verifies function and performance of subsystems.
• Diagnoses issues and provides corrective actions.
• Researches new technologies and DFMA for cost reductions.
