Job summary

Johnson & Johnson in Wilson, North Carolina, seeks an experienced Automation Engineer to own and optimize the filling line automation for aseptic processing. You will work with Bausch+Ströbel, SKAN, and integrated MES interfaces, leading FAT/SAT and qualification efforts.

You will collaborate with Manufacturing, Process Engineering, Sterility Assurance, Quality, IT/OT, and QA teams to ensure product quality and reliable operation under cGMP.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 10 years of progressive automation and controls engineering experience in pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical manufacturing.
• Hands‑on experience with ISA-95 Level 1 and Level 2 automation systems, PLC/DCS controls, SCADA/HMI, batch control and OT infrastructure.
• Experience with Bausch+Ströbel aseptic filling equipment and SKAN isolator/decontamination systems, including integration and qualification.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot container flow, e‑beam transfer, aseptic filling, and line control interfaces in a GMP environment.

Responsibilities

• Own the filling line automation requirements and functional design, review specs, and close gaps between equipment and site systems.
• Develop and troubleshoot Siemens PLC and HMI/SCADA applications for container handling, dosing, fill weight, stoppering, and line sequencing.
• Lead interfaces between equipment packages and site control systems, verify operation modes and restart permissives.
• Translate aseptic processing requirements into automation logic for isolator pressure, airflow, decontamination and environmental monitoring.
• Configure and verify recipes, alarms, batch sequencing, and operator actions across OVD/OMNIA and zenon.
• Lead FAT/SAT, commissioning, and qualification activities, including MES interfaces and data recovery.
