Job summary

Innovate in South Carolina is seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to join our growing team. This hands-on role will own complex automation projects across PLCs, HMI/SCADA, networks, and OT/IT systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related technical discipline.
• 5+ years hands-on systems integration experience.

• Proficiency in Python/Jython, SQL, Structured Text.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and deploy HMI/SCADA systems using Ignition, AVEVA Wonderware and FactoryTalk View.
• Develop and troubleshoot PLC applications using Rockwell Studio 5000 / Logix Designer and Siemens TIA Portal.
• Design integrations between OT networks, MQTT brokers, enterprise IT systems and SQL databases.
• Configure and troubleshoot Modbus, OPC-UA and Profinet communications.
• Develop data logging and reporting solutions using Ignition and XLReporter.
• Diagnose complex software, networking, database and hardware communication issues.
• Apply industrial cybersecurity principles to automation and critical infrastructure systems.
• Lead programming activities during testing, startup and commissioning.
• Produce and maintain network diagrams, control narratives, tagging structures and software documentation.
• Make technical decisions around programming and system integration.
• Work closely with technical leads, engineers, project managers and customers.

We’re working with an established, employee-owned industrial solutions business that delivers automation, controls and engineered solutions to industrial and critical infrastructure customers.4

They’re looking for an experienced Automation Engineer to join their growing team in SC.

This is a hands‑on technical role where you’ll take ownership of complex automation and integration projects, working across PLCs, HMI/SCADA, industrial networks, databases and OT/IT systems.

You’ll be responsible for designing, programming, integrating and commissioning industrial automation systems, working closely with engineers, project managers, technical leads and customers throughout the project lifecycle involving:

• PLC programming and troubleshooting
• HMI and SCADA development
• Industrial networking and communications
• OT/IT integration
• SQL databases and data systems
• System testing, startup and commissioning

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll ideally have:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Automation Engineering or a related technical discipline
• 5+ years of hands‑on systems integration experience
• Strong experience programming and troubleshooting industrial automation systems
• Experience with Ignition, Rockwell Automation, AVEVA Wonderware and/or Siemens
• Experience with Python/Jython, SQL, Structured Text or similar programming languages
• Strong understanding of industrial networks, managed switches, firewalls and industrial communication protocols
• Experience integrating OT and IT systems
• Experience with SQL Server, PostgreSQL or similar databases
