Job summary

PTS Advance is an Automation & Controls role seeking a candidate to design and commission PLC/HMI systems across Emerson, ABB, Allen-Bradley, Schneider Electric and related platforms.

You will troubleshoot industrial networks, work with Modbus, IEC 61850, OPC, DNP3, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, and support OT cybersecurity practices while traveling about 30-35%.

Hybrid schedule in the United States; candidates must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, Computer Engineering or a related field.
• 3-8 years of experience in industrial automation and controls.
• Hands-on experience developing PLC/HMI systems using Emerson, Allen-Bradley, Schneider Electric, or similar platforms.

Job description

We're looking for an experienced Automation & Controls Engineer with a strong background in PLC & HMI Programming and SCADA. This role is a great fit for someone who enjoys getting into the technical details—from designing and programming control systems to commissioning equipment, troubleshooting networks, and supporting customers in the field.

You'll work with PLCs, HMIs, industrial networks, protective relays, and other control system equipment to develop reliable and secure automation solutions. You'll also have the opportunity to work across the full project lifecycle, from initial design and programming through testing, startup, commissioning, and ongoing support.

What You'll Be Doing

• Develop and program PLC-based automation systems using platforms such as Emerson, ABB, Allen-Bradley, Schneider Electric, or similar systems.
• Design and configure HMIs, including control logic, alarming, trending, and system integration.
• Work with industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, IEC 61850, OPC, DNP3, EtherNet/IP, and PROFINET.
• Design control system architectures incorporating PLCs, HMIs, protective relays, controllers, and communication processors.
• Design and troubleshoot industrial networks, including Layer 2/3 networking, VLANs, routing, switching, IP addressing, and network redundancy such as RSTP, PRP, and HSR.
• Get hands-on with system testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and startup activities.
• Diagnose industrial network issues using tools such as Wireshark and packet capture.
• Support OT cybersecurity initiatives, including secure remote access, VPNs, firewalls, and IEC 62443-based security practices.
• Work with industry standards and technologies from organizations and manufacturers such as UL, IEEE, IEC, Cisco, Hirschmann, Moxa, and Siemens.
• Support FATs, SATs, startup activities, customer site commissioning, and troubleshooting as needed.
• Create clear technical documentation and work closely with engineering, project, and customer teams.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• Approximately 3-8 years of experience working in industrial automation and controls.
• Hands-on experience developing PLC/HMI systems using Emerson, Allen-Bradley, Schneider Electric, or similar platforms.
• Experience taking automation systems from design and programming through testing, commissioning, startup, and customer support.
• Strong understanding of industrial communications, networking, and control system architecture.
• Experience with OT networking and cybersecurity, including managed switches, routers, firewalls, VPNs, Wireshark, and IEC 62443 principles.
• Familiarity with power automation systems and equipment such as protective relays, PLCs, HMIs, communication processors, and generator controllers.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work through complex technical issues in the office or in the field.
• Good technical documentation and communication skills.
• Comfortable working with customers and collaborating with different engineering and project teams.
• Willingness to travel approximately 30-35%.
