Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Automation Controls Engineer to support advanced manufacturing automation and controls systems. The ideal candidate will have strong hands‑on experience with PLC programming, industrial automation, robotics, HMI/SCADA, commissioning, and electrical controls troubleshooting.

This role will support automation equipment from initial development and integration through installation, commissioning, startup, and ongoing production support.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, program, commission, and troubleshoot industrial control systems for new and existing manufacturing equipment.
• Develop PLC programs from scratch and modify existing machine logic to implement new functionality.
• Program and troubleshoot Siemens PLCs using TIA Portal and Rockwell/Allen‑Bradley PLCs using Studio 5000.
• Support equipment installation, startup, commissioning, FAT and SAT activities.
• Troubleshoot PLC, electrical, controls, machinery, safety, and production‑related issues.
• Integrate PLC systems with robotics, vision systems, HMI, SCADA, and MES platforms.
• Develop and troubleshoot PLC product tracking, handshakes, data transactions, and equipment interfaces.
• Develop, modify, and support HMI/SCADA applications using Ignition Perspective and Siemens WinCC.
• Lead controls engineering activities for larger automation and manufacturing projects.
• Support machine and process improvements to improve uptime, throughput, reliability, and production performance.
• Troubleshoot manufacturing downtime, equipment failures, safety issues, and process‑related problems.
• Read, interpret, and redline electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, control drawings, and blueprints.
• Support functional safety systems, including Siemens ProfiSafe, Rockwell CIP Safety, and hardwired safety circuits.
• Coordinate with equipment vendors, contractors, engineering, operations, maintenance, and other cross‑functional teams.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior controls and automation engineers.
• Prepare and maintain controls documentation, testing procedures, troubleshooting guides, and system modifications.
• Participate in rotating off‑hours/on‑call support as required.

Required Qualifications

• 6+ years of hands‑on Controls or Automation Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong Siemens PLC programming and troubleshooting experience using TIA Portal.
• Strong Rockwell/Allen‑Bradley PLC programming and troubleshooting experience using Studio 5000, including legacy PanelView systems.
• Experience with HMI/SCADA systems, including Ignition Perspective and Siemens WinCC.
• Experience with PLC data transactions, product tracking, handshakes, and MES integration.
• Strong electrical and controls troubleshooting skills.
• Experience with functional safety systems, including ProfiSafe, CIP Safety, and hardwired safety.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, diagrams, and engineering drawings.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively on complex, cross‑functional projects.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related engineering discipline; equivalent hands‑on experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with FANUC robotics and ROBOGUIDE.
• Experience with Beckhoff TwinCAT.
• Experience with FANUC DCS, Epson, or Kawasaki robotics.
• Experience with Keyence or Cognex barcode scanners, inspection systems, and vision integration.
• Experience with Ignition data integration, Rockwell FTView ME, IPCs, and Panel PCs.
• Knowledge of Siemens Scalance managed switches and industrial OT networks.
• Experience with AutoCAD Electrical and/or SolidWorks.
• Experience with control panel fabrication, modification, and troubleshooting.
• Experience with iba and Octoplant.
• Background in battery manufacturing, energy storage, automotive, or other discrete manufacturing environments.
• Experience with batching applications and powder‑handling systems.
• Exposure to powder‑to‑tape conversion, web handling, textiles, electrode manufacturing, or industrial oven controls.
