Job summary

Progressive Machine and Design is seeking an Automation Controls Software Engineer III to lead controls programming, debugging, and site-installation of turnkey automation equipment.

Role requires 10+ years in control engineering with PLC, HMI, robot programming, vision systems, and industrial protocols. You will review requirements, drive technical direction, and participate in FAT/SAT tests at customer sites. Relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates.

Qualifications

• Experience (10+ years) with 3 or more listed technologies.
• BS in EE, EET, Mechatronics or equivalent experience.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Work independently on large or high-complexity projects.
• Train new or less senior engineers as needed.
• Set technical direction for engineers on complex projects.
• Peer review colleagues’ work for accuracy and thoroughness.
• Review customer requirements, PMD proposal, and cost estimate.
• Use standard or customer-provided code to create control & HMI programs.
• Create custom device driver code.
• Attend Mechanical Design Reviews to understand function and safety needs.
• Enter I/O into controller programs from schematics and timing charts.
• Program intended sequences into controller programs.
• Download completed programs and commission hardware.
• Debug hardware and software, including fault handling and tooling interfaces.
• Participate in Factory Acceptance and Site Acceptance Tests.
