Job summary

Florida Department of Corrections in Gulf County is seeking a Senior Maintenance Mechanic to oversee complex auto repair tasks and supervise inmates. You will ensure vehicle upkeep, safety, and rehabilitation progress under the Automotive Equipment Maintenance Superintendent.

The role is not a telework position and requires reporting to the FDC office in the area served. A CDL may be required depending on assignment, with training provided if needed.

Qualifications

• Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience in automotive repair and maintenance.
• If assigned location requires a Commercial Driver License, candidate must obtain one within 6 months of hire date.

Responsibilities

• Repair and maintain vehicles, including cars and trucks with diesel and gasoline engines.
• Teach and supervise inmates in complex auto repair skills such as engine, transmission, radiator, A/C, tire and bodywork repairs.
• Plan and schedule repair work, order parts, and ensure regular maintenance is completed on time.
• Keep records of inmate progress and track vehicle maintenance costs and usage.
• Supervise inmates during work, maintaining control and safety following all procedures.
