Job summary

The Florida Department of Corrections in Gulf County is seeking a Senior Maintenance Mechanic to perform and oversee complex auto repair and maintenance tasks, including diesel and gasoline engines, under the Automotive Equipment Maintenance Superintendent.

The role involves teaching and supervising inmates, planning repair work, ordering parts, and keeping rehab progress records, with a requirement to report to the local FDC office and a background check.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or its equivalent.
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience in automotive repair and maintenance.
• Commercial Driver License may be required depending on location; if not possessed, must obtain within 6 months of hire.
• Knowledge, skills, and abilities should be demonstrated on the application, in the education, in the work experience, in the work sample, in the interview and/or during reference checks.

Responsibilities

• Repair and maintain vehicles, including cars and trucks with diesel and gasoline engines.
• Teach and supervise inmates in complex auto repair skills (engine, transmission, radiator, AC, tires, bodywork).
• Plan and schedule repair work, order parts, ensure timely maintenance.
• Keep records of inmate progress for rehabilitation and track vehicle maintenance costs and usage.
• Supervise inmates during work, ensuring safety and following procedures.
