Job description

Senior Audit Associate – Construction & Commercial Clients

Location: Frederick / Baltimore County, Maryland

Experience: 3+ Years in Public Accounting

CPA Required or Actively Pursuing

Ready to Take More Ownership of Your Audit Career?

If you're currently an Audit Senior or experienced Audit Associate and want greater responsibility, more client exposure and a clearer route into management, this could be a great next step.

An established national CPA and advisory firm is looking for a Senior Audit Associate to join its growing assurance practice, with a focus on construction and commercial clients.

This isn't a position where you'll simply be completing workpapers. You'll be trusted to lead engagements, supervise junior staff, work directly with clients and take ownership of the audit process from planning through completion.

You'll also have the opportunity to broaden your experience across financial reporting, technical accounting and selected tax matters.

What You'll Be Doing
Audit & Assurance
  • Take responsibility for planning and executing audit and review engagements.
  • Evaluate internal controls and identify areas of audit risk.
  • Prepare and review audit workpapers and supporting documentation.
  • Perform substantive testing across revenue, receivables, inventory and fixed assets.
  • Review inventory valuations, depreciation methods and financial statement classifications.
  • Identify potential liabilities and assess appropriate financial statement disclosures.
  • Prepare financial statements, footnotes and management letter recommendations.
  • Investigate accounting issues and work with Managers to resolve them.
  • Monitor engagement budgets and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Maintain compliance with US GAAP, GAAS and relevant professional standards.
Client & Team Responsibilities
  • Act as a day-to-day contact for assigned clients.
  • Develop strong relationships with business owners and finance teams.
  • Supervise and train junior Audit Associates.
  • Delegate work and review engagement documentation.
  • Communicate engagement progress and technical issues to Managers and Partners.
  • Take increasing responsibility for engagements with limited supervision.
Additional Accounting & Tax Exposure

Depending on your experience, you'll also have opportunities to:

  • Prepare more complex business and individual tax returns.
  • Assist with consolidated returns and other specialist tax matters.
  • Research accounting and tax questions.
  • Identify potential tax planning opportunities.
  • Support clients with wider financial reporting requirements.
What We're Looking For
  • 3+ years of public accounting audit experience.
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP and GAAS.
  • CPA qualification or actively working toward obtaining it.
  • Previous experience planning or supervising audit engagements.
  • Experience preparing or reviewing financial statements.
  • Strong technical accounting and audit research skills.
  • Confidence communicating directly with clients.
  • Ability to supervise and mentor junior professionals.
  • Good working knowledge of audit and accounting software.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.

Experience working with construction companies or commercial businesses would be particularly relevant.

Exposure to Employee Benefit Plan audits or Single Audits would also be advantageous but isn't essential.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

This role offers the chance to move into a position with greater ownership while continuing to build your technical and leadership skills.

You'll benefit from:

  • Base salary of $90,000 – $100,000.
  • Exposure to construction and commercial audit engagements.
  • Opportunities to lead engagements and supervise junior staff.
  • Direct collaboration with experienced Managers and Partners.
  • A combination of audit, financial reporting and technical accounting work.
  • Opportunities to gain additional tax experience.
  • Flexible working arrangements.
  • Open paid-time-off policy.
  • 401(k) with employer matching and profit sharing.
  • Medical, dental and vision insurance.
  • Company-paid life insurance.
  • Short-term and long-term disability insurance.
  • Tuition reimbursement and professional development support.
  • Nine paid holidays.
  • Employee referral and new business bonuses.
