Job summary

NYC School Construction Authority in New York, NY, seeks a Senior Attorney to provide legal guidance on contracts, construction litigation, and liens. The role reports to the General Counsel and collaborates with Legal, Construction Management, Real Estate, External Affairs, and Architecture & Engineering teams.

The ideal candidate has a JD, NY Bar admission, and at least six years of relevant experience, including four years in construction, contracts, or litigation.

Qualifications

• J.D. degree from an accredited law school.
• Admission to the New York State Bar in good standing.
• Minimum six years of relevant legal experience, including four years in construction, contracts, litigation or similar fields.

Responsibilities

• Represent the Authority at mediations on construction contracts, disputes and other matters.
• Oversee construction litigation and lien foreclosure actions.
• Negotiate and draft licenses, contracts, and memoranda of understanding.
• Conduct legal research and draft memos to protect the Authority’s interests when laws/regulations are unclear.
• Provide general legal support to the Authority as required.
• Report progress of matters to senior management.
• Review and recommend policy/procedure changes to improve compliance.
• Assist with contract and project close-out procedures.
