Job summary

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) seeks a Senior Attorney to join the Office of General Counsel. You will handle civil and administrative litigation, including trials and appeals, prepare pleadings, and participate in hearings, while applying knowledge of statutes and regulations to achieve favorable outcomes.

Candidates should have proven litigation experience, excellent writing skills, and be a member in good standing of The Florida Bar.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in civil, appellate, and administrative litigation.
• Excellent writing and communication skills.
• Knowledge of Florida Statutes, Florida Administrative Code, and federal laws and regulations.
• Ability to identify complex problems, review information, and develop resolution options.
• Judgment to assess compliance with laws, regulations, or standards.

Responsibilities

• Represent the Department in trial and appellate civil and administrative cases (BAR/DOAH).
• Prepare pleadings, including administrative complaints and briefs; attend hearings and oral arguments.
• Maintain familiarity with relevant statutes, rules, and case law to support litigation.
• Collaborate with the General Counsel and other Department units on case strategy.
