Job summary

L3Harris Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Senior Associate, Mechanical Engineering in Carlsbad, CA to design, develop, and qualify mechanical systems within a collaborative multi-disciplinary team.

The role focuses on 3D modeling, hardware design documentation, analysis, integration and testing in a defense/aerospace context. The candidate will produce 3D CAD designs, documentation and test plans, and participate in design reviews while supporting producibility and quality initiatives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree required with 2+ years related experience, or Graduate Degree with 0–2 years experience; alternatives include 6+ years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
• Experience in design, development and production of mechanical systems for Aerospace/Defense industries.
• Understanding of GD&T and ASME Y14.5.
• Experience with CAD tools and PLM systems.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Demonstrated leadership and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.

Responsibilities

• Assist in development, integration, and operational support of modules and electronics for Aerospace/Defense industries.
• Mechanical design in 3D CAD.
• Develop design documentation, drawings, specifications to meet military specifications.
• Prototype, integrate, and test component parts and assemblies.
• Perform stress, thermal, shock and vibration analysis with FEA (e.g., ANSYS).
• Develop test plans and procedures for mechanical subsystems.
• Perform test and evaluation of components and systems.
• Participate in peer reviews, PDRs, CDRs, and design reviews.
• Coordinate with manufacturing and quality to ensure producibility and inspectability.
• Adhere to product development and configuration management processes.
• Willingness to travel (<30 days/year).
