Springer Nature is seeking an Associate/Senior Editor for BMC Surgery and BMC Urology. The role operates in New York, NY or Philadelphia, with a hybrid working model, overseeing editorial handling of manuscripts and driving content development.

You will build relationships with the Editorial Board, assess submissions for scientific rigor and novelty, and coordinate with internal teams to ensure editorial excellence and author satisfaction.

Qualifications

• Educated to PhD or MD level (or equivalent) in surgery, urology or a related discipline.
• Substantial editorial experience in scientific publishing required for Senior Editor level.
• Ability to critically evaluate scientific content and assess manuscripts for rigor, novelty, relevance and impact.

Responsibilities

• Develop a journal development strategy for BMC Surgery and BMC Urology.
• Collaborate across Journals Group to support publishing strategies.
• Identify, commission and develop reviews, collections and supplements.
• Oversee editorial handling of manuscripts with high scientific standards.
• Lead discussions with Senior Board Members on strategy and policy updates.
• Resolve publishing and research integrity cases with professional rigor.
