Job summary

First Western Trust is seeking an Assistant Controller to lead accounting operations in Denver. You will oversee the monthly close, balance sheet reconciliations, ICFR, and reporting to management, the board, and regulators while supervising payroll, AP, and the revenue cycle for trust and investment management.

The ideal candidate has 10–15 years in financial services, 4+ years of people leadership, CPA preferred, and strong Excel skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related business field required.
• 10–15 years of accounting or finance experience within financial services.
• 4+ years of people leadership experience.
• Strong knowledge of accounting operations, internal controls, and financial reporting.
• Experience with public company accounting, trust accounting, mortgage or loan accounting, and SOX environments preferred.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong analytical abilities.
• Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• CPA preferred.

Responsibilities

• Direct the accounting operations functions of the company, including monthly close and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Oversee revenue cycle for Trust and Investment Management and related reporting to SEC and regulators.
• Manage payroll, benefits, and Accounts Payable; liaise with external auditors on ICFR.
• Lead improvements in accounting systems and processes and drive project delivery.
• Develop and lead a team of 6–7 employees (2–3 direct reports).
