Job summary

Brooklyn Bureau of Community Service, Inc is seeking an Assistant Controller for Financial Operations in New York. This hybrid, full-time role supports the Finance department, strengthens internal controls, and ensures accurate, timely financial activity.

You will supervise staff, oversee daily accounting operations, and partner with leadership to optimize processes and reporting. A solid accounting background within nonprofit or government-funded environments is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting, or a related field.
• 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in accounting/finance operations.
• Experience supervising staff and managing performance.
• Strong knowledge of AP/AR, reconciliations, GL, and internal controls.
• Experience with Sage Intacct or similar financial systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day supervision and guidance to Finance staff.
• Strengthen monthly close processes and timetables.
• Oversee AP, AR, cash management, and general accounting workflows.
• Develop and monitor internal controls with the Controller/CFO.
• Coordinate between General Accounting and Grants teams.
