Job summary

Martin Marietta is seeking a Plant Operator to ensure safe, efficient production of Hot Mix Asphalt and Warm Mix Asphalt. You will operate a computerized control system to regulate raw material flow and maintain quality throughout the mixing process.

You will also perform maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate with the QC lab and dispatch to fulfill customer orders accurately. This role requires high attention to detail and strong safety practices in a unionized environment.

Qualifications

• Education: high school diploma, GED, or relevant experience.
• Experience: 10 years in Asphalt Plant Operations or heavy industrial manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Operate automated plant control systems to monitor and adjust material flow, temperatures, and mixing times.
• Ensure precise blending of aggregates and liquid asphalt cement per mix designs.
• Oversee loading of asphalt into haul trucks with correct weights and safe yard traffic flow.
• Monitor liquid AC, fuel, and aggregate stockpiles; coordinate with Loader Operator to keep plant fed.
• Perform maintenance on conveyors, baghouses, drum dryers, screens and elevators; replace bearings, belts and liners.
• Use arc welders and cutting torches for structural repairs and modifications.
• Identify and troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical malfunctions to minimize downtime.
• Maintain a clean facility (control house, yard, equipment) to prevent hazards and spills.
• Conduct pre-shift and post-shift inspections and document findings.
• Ensure OSHA/EPA compliance, dust control, emissions and lockout/tagout procedures.
• Identify and mitigate hazards; participate in safety meetings.
• Maintain daily production logs, maintenance records, and fuel/oil usage reports.
• Assist in training Laborers and sharing knowledge of plant systems.
• Act as primary liaison between plant, QC lab, and dispatch to ensure accurate, timely orders.
