Job Summary:

Messer owns and operates a large portfolio of industrial gas plants, including ASU, CO2, H2, He, as well as on-site plants, serving customers within a wide range of industries. Electrical infrastructure is a key component required for operation of these industrial gas plants. This position reports to the Area Maintenance and Reliability Hub Team, supporting the Area Operations Teams by providing technical engineering support and SME recommendations for all electrical equipment and infrastructure utilized within the facilities in the area.

Principal Responsibilities:

• Provide technical, troubleshooting, and maintenance support for all electrical issues at ASU, CO2, H2, and He plants, including 138kV substations, switchgear, motor control centers, VFDs, batteries, UPS, DCS & PLC controls, large motors up to 35,000HP, excitation controls, and reduced voltage motor starting equipment.
• Support the development of detailed electrical major maintenance work scope, budget, contractor selection, and execution strategies.
• Identify and assess electrically related condition-based monitoring tools, techniques, and practices; review reports and data, and coordinate specific actions based on findings.
• Provide electrical technical support, review, and approval of changes through the Engineering Management of Change (EMOC) process; assist in developing proper engineering documentation.
• Create or review and approve electrical equipment PMs, work instructions, and procedures; review the quality and completeness of electrical PM execution.
• Support field operations during major maintenance, upgrades, new plant checkout, and commissioning; perform full loop checks and functional testing before startup; support plant restart.
• Provide electrical equipment scope, proposal estimates, technical documents, and execution support for large capital improvement projects and re-life projects.
• Supervise and assess the technical competency of electrical contractors and service providers to ensure scope and quality standards are met.
• Understand, apply, and train NFPA 70E standards; review contractor electrical safety practices.
• Perform electrical safety and technical training at site locations.

Required Skills:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum 10 years of electrical engineering experience in Operations Support, Reliability, or Engineering and Installation of Industrial Process Plants, with a focus on power distribution.

Qualifications:

• Exceptional operational safety leadership.
• Experience with installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of substations, switchgear, transformers, motors, and protection equipment.
• Knowledge of electrical short circuit analysis, relay protection, power quality, high voltage motor starting, hazardous area classification, and lightning protection.
• Proven troubleshooting skills and ability to restore plant control functions efficiently.
• Expertise in large high voltage motors and control systems preferred.
• Working knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70, NETA standards, and NFPA 70E.
• Ability to influence in a matrixed organization, strong communication, and attention to detail.
