Job description

Job Summary:

Messer owns and operates a large portfolio of industrial gas plants, including ASU, CO2, H2, He, as well as on-site plants, serving customers across various industries. Electrical infrastructure is vital for these operations. This position reports to the Area Maintenance and Reliability Hub Team, supporting the Area Operations Teams with technical engineering support and SME recommendations for electrical equipment and infrastructure within the facilities in the area.

Principal Responsibilities:

1. Provide technical support, troubleshooting, and maintenance for all electrical issues at ASU, CO2, H2, and He plants, including substations, switchgear, motor control centers, VFDs, UPS systems, DCS & PLC controls, and large motors up to 35,000HP.
2. Support the development of electrical maintenance scope, budgets, contractor selection, and execution strategies.
3. Assess and improve electrically related condition-based monitoring tools and practices, review reports and data, and coordinate actions.
4. Review and approve changes through the Engineering Management of Change (EMOC) process, assisting in proper documentation.
5. Create, review, and approve electrical PMs, work instructions, and procedures, ensuring quality and completeness.
6. Support field operations during major maintenance, upgrades, and plant startups, including testing and commissioning.
7. Provide electrical scope, estimates, technical documents, and support for capital projects and re-life projects.
8. Supervise and evaluate electrical contractors and service providers for scope and quality.
9. Understand, apply, and train NFPA 70E standards, reviewing contractor safety practices.
10. Conduct electrical training at site locations.

Required Skills:

1. Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
2. At least 10 years of electrical engineering experience in operations support, reliability, or installation of industrial process plants, including power distribution.

Qualifications:

1. Strong safety leadership and operational safety experience.
2. Experience with installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of substations, switchgear, transformers, motors, and protection equipment.
3. Knowledge of electrical short circuit analysis, relay protection, power quality, high voltage motor starting, hazardous area classification, and lightning protection.
4. Proven troubleshooting skills and ability to execute solutions efficiently.
5. Experience with high voltage motors and control systems is preferred.
6. Knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70, NETA standards, and electrical safety standards.
7. Ability to influence in a matrixed organization and strong communication skills.
8. Attention to detail.
